SP 7: WELCOME HOME KOREAN WAR VETERANS DAY

EXISTING LAW REQUIRES THE GOVERNOR TO PROCLAIM VARIOUS DAYS AS HOLIDAYS AND DAYS OF REMEMBRANCE.

THIS MEASURE WOULD MEMORIALIZE THE LEGISLATURE AND THE GOVERNOR TO ENACT LEGISLATION THAT WOULD REQUIRE THE GOVERNOR TO ANNUALLY PROCLAIM A DAY IN JUNE TO BE WELCOME HOME KOREAN WAR VETERANS DAY.

SP 4: RELATING TO STATE OBSERVANCES

WHEREAS, THE VIETNAM WAR HAS A WELCOME HOME DAY, BUT THE KOREAN WAR DOES NOT HAVE A WELCOME HOME DAY; AND

WHEREAS, AS BOTH THE KOREAN WAR AND THE VIETNAM WAR WERE FIGHTING COMMUNISM WITH HIGH CASUALTIES AND MUCH PUBLIC DISCORD, THE SAME HONORS SHOULD BE AFFORDED BOTH EVENTS; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT

RESOLVED, BY THE SENIOR SENATE AND THE SENIOR ASSEMBLY, JOINTLY, THAT THE SENIOR LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA AT ITS 2010 REGULAR SESSION, A MAJORITY OF THE MEMBERS VOTING THEREFOR, HEREBY PROPOSES THAT A DAY IN JUNE OF 2011 AND SUBSEQUENT YEARS BE SET ASIDE FOR WELCOME HOME KOREAN WAR VETERANS; AND BE IT FURTHER

RESOLVED, THAT THE SENIOR LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA RESPECTFULLY MEMORIALIZES THE LEGISLATURE AND THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO ENACT APPROPRIATE LEGISLATION THAT WOULD ADDRESS THE CONCERNS SET FORTH IN THIS MEASURE; AND BE IT FURTHER

RESOLVED, THAT A COPY OF THIS MEASURE BE TRANSMITTED TO THE PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE OF THE SENATE, THE SPEAKER OF THE ASSEMBLY, AND THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA.
