SENIOR ASSEMBLY PROPOSAL NO. 10

AP 10: RESTAURANTS: SENIOR MENUS.

UNDER EXISTING LAW, THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH REGULATES HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUES WITH PUBLIC FOOD SERVICES FACILITIES, INCLUDING RESTAURANTS.

THIS MEASURE WOULD MEMORIALIZE THE LEGISLATURE AND THE GOVERNOR TO ENACT A RESOLUTION THAT WOULD URGE RESTAURANTS TO OFFER A SENIOR MENU FOR PATRONS 55 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER, AS SPECIFIED.

AP 10: RELATING TO RESTAURANTS

WHEREAS, RESTAURANTS THAT HAVE SPECIAL MENUS FOR SENIORS 55 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER THAT OFFER SMALLER AND LESS COSTLY PORTIONS APPEAL TO SENIOR CONSUMERS WITH SMALLER APPETITES; AND

WHEREAS, SENIOR MENUS HAVE THE ADDITIONAL BENEFIT OF OFFERING SENIORS OPTIONS AT A LOWER COST, ALLOWING THOSE WITH FIXED AND LIMITED INCOMES TO EAT OUT MORE EASILY; AND

WHEREAS, SENIOR MENUS WILL HELP RESTAURANTS FILL TABLES WHEN MANY BUSINESSES HAVE CLOSED DUE TO DIFFICULT ECONOMIC TIMES; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT

RESOLVED, BY THE SENIOR ASSEMBLY AND THE SENIOR SENATE, JOINTLY, THAT THE SENIOR LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA AT ITS 2009 REGULAR SESSION, A MAJORITY OF THE MEMBERS VOTING THEREFOR, HEREBY PROPOSES THAT THE LEGISLATURE AND THE GOVERNOR ENACT A RESOLUTION THAT WOULD URGE RESTAURANTS TO OFFER A SENIOR MENU FOR PATRONS 55 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER THAT CONSISTS OF SMALLER PORTION SIZES AT REDUCED PRICES; AND BE IT FURTHER

RESOLVED, THAT THE SENIOR LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA RESPECTFULLY MEMORIALIZES THE LEGISLATURE AND THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA TO ENACT APPROPRIATE LEGISLATION THAT WOULD ADDRESS THE CONCERNS SET FORTH IN THIS MEASURE; AND BE IT FURTHER

RESOLVED, THAT A COPY OF THIS MEASURE BE TRANSMITTED TO THE SPEAKER OF THE ASSEMBLY, THE PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE OF THE SENATE, AND THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA.
