ACHIEVEMENT.
UNDER
EXISTING LAW, NO DAY EXISTS FOR THE RECOGNITION OF SENIOR ACHIEVEMENT.
THIS
MEASURE WOULD MEMORIALIZE THE LEGISLATURE AND THE GOVERNOR TO ENACT LEGISLATION
WHICH WOULD ESTABLISH "THERE IS A WINNER IN YOU" SENIOR ACHIEVEMENT
DAY TO RECOGNIZE SENIOR ACHIEVEMENT ANNUALLY ON MAY llTH, 2003.

RELATING TO RECOGNITION OF SENIOR ACHIEVEMENT
WHEREAS,
OUR SENIORS MADE
WHEREAS,
MANY SENIORS ARE UNAPPRECIATED AND IGNORED IN THEIR OLD AGE AT THE VERY TIME
SENIORS SHOULD RECEIVE THE RECOGNITION THEY DESERVE FOR THEIR LIFETIME
ACHIEVEMENTS; AND
WHEREAS,
THOSE WHO COME INTO CONTACT WITH SENIORS ARE AFFECTED BY THEIR DISPOSITION AND
EVERYONE BENEFITS FROM A POSITIVE OUTLOOK ON LIFE; AND
WHEREAS,
THE SALUTE AMERICA CAMPAIGN HAS CONDUCTED FIVE SENIOR EXPOS AT PARK LA BREA,
CALIFORNIA, AND HAS AWARDED 100 SENIORS EACH YEAR SINCE 1996, AND THE FORMER
MAYOR OF LOS ANGELES, RICHARD RIORDON, OFFICIALLY DESIGNATED MAY IITH AS SENIOR
ACHIEVEMENT DAY FOR THE CITY OF LOS ANGELES; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED,
BY THE SENIOR SENATE AND THE SENIOR ASSEMBLY, JOINTLY, THAT THE SENIOR
LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA AT ITS 2002 REGULAR SESSION, A MAJORITY
OF THE MEMBERS VOTING THEREFOR, HEREBY PROPOSES THAT MAY IITH, 2003 BE NAMED
"SENIOR ACHIEVEMENT DAY" AND THAT ON THAT DAY, SENIORS RECEIVE
RECOGNITION OF THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS; AND BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED,
THAT THE SENIOR LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF
RESOLVED,
THAT A COPY OF THIS MEASURE BE TRANSMITTED TO THE PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE OF THE
SENATE, THE SPEAKER OF THE ASSEMBLY, AND THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF
CALIFORNIA.
