In 1980, California was organized by county into 33 regional Planning and Service Areas (PSAs), by county, called the California Aging Network. Each planning and service area is served by an Area Agency on Aging. The Older Americans Act (OAA) and the Older Californians Act (OCA) states that the Area Agency shall be the leader relative to all aging.

California Alliance for Retired Americans (CARA)

California Association of Senior Service Centers (CASSC)

CASSC provides networking and career development for those leaders while addressing the issues of programming, personnel, administration, volunteers, and fundraising through an annual conference.

California Department of Aging (CDA)

The California Department of Aging contracts with and provides leadership and direction to Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) that coordinate a wide array of services to seniors and adults with disabilities at the community level and serve as the focal point for local aging concerns.

National Council on Aging (NCOA)

Serves as a national voice for older Americans and the community organizations that serve them, and brings together nonprofit organizations, businesses, and government to develop creative solutions that improve the lives of all older adults.
